Every Tuesday you can take an English tour of Maison La Roche. It was designed by Le Corbusier and constructed from 1923-25. Raoul La Roche was probably Le Corbusier most fervent admirer. La Roche needed a better space to display his art collection. Charles Jeanneret needed a home for his family. They bought the land and Le Courbusier designed a house for each. The building appears to be one but you cannot access them from the other accept by the roof terrace. Maison La Roche is open to the public and the Jeanneret home houses the office for The Le Corbusier foundation. Le Corbusier's studio-apartment is open on Saturdays so I hope to visit that this weekend. Remi was our guide.
Changing trains. Sneak preview starts tonight.
Jeanneret house
It's an historical building after all.
The most of the inside has been restored to the original colors.
Le Corbusier. Remi says most of the time there is nothing hanging as they loan out a lot to museums.
The dining room. Not the original furniture but very close.
The man himself.
Dumb waiter
The floor was originally wood but after a roof leak Le Corbusier resigned with a rubber floor and added the lighting structure you see i the top right.
Chipping away to the original.
The roof terrace. Unfortunately because there are no hand rails we cannot go out.
You can see the paint color difference here from the inside and out. The outside is now white but will be restored next month to match the inside color as was originally intended.
Le Corbousier designed the florescent fixture. Very expensive in the day.
That's Stef. She's an architecture student from Sydney.
Lego La Roche
Back to the Metro
