Paris Day Thirteen- Thor and La Grand Large

Thursday may be Thor's Day but Friday was my Thor Day. Okay, maybe that was a bit much. But this marathon was so much fun. But I'm getting ahead of myself.

La Grand Rex theatre holds the largest cinema in Paris and the largest movie screen in Europe. To give a comparison, Tampa Theatre opened in 1926, the Rex in 1932. Both are in the Art Deco style of the time but the Rex is twice as large: 2,800 seats vs. Tampa Theatre's 1446 seats. Both have the "night sky" over head and the architectural elements on the side of the stage. There are 6 other screens added over the years in the basement and next door.

I arrived around 3:30pm for the 4:30pm start time. I went in bought my ticket and went back out to stand in the "avec billets" line (with tickets). They let us in around 4pm.

When they let us in we immediately go up an escalator and then two more flight to reach concessions. Then you go up another flight to get to the seats. I find that we are seated in the balcony. I didn't understand why there was no seating on the floor until they unrolled the screen.

The unrolling of the screen is a serious event. Everyone cheers and there is loud music playing as it comes down.

Can you see the blue arch behind he screen? It takes up the entire stage.

If you go here you can seen more photos inside and to get the scale of the screen.

The only trailer was for The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug

I shot these with my phone just resting on the knee. Super clear projection.

Thor and The Avengers where in 2D.

Run away, little princess.

Calibrating for Thor: The Dark World in 3D!

When it was all over I looked at my phone and it was midnight.
